Sleigh Bed, made with digital fabrication technology.

I have to post a link to my husband's blog in which he discusses his bed design project.

Since I live with the man, I had some idea what a big, complicated project this was.  Even so, I am taken aback by all the steps and interesting machinery involved.  I think it's neat that he used such high-tech stuff (at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning) to create what, in the end, is a very traditional-looking piece of furniture.

Also, YOU CAN CUT STEEL WITH WATER.

I don't know if the photos fully convey how gorgeous the grain of that tiger maple is, on the footboard and headboard.  It is stunning.  I had hoped their cat might pose on the bed but you know how cats are.

Quick January Update

As it turns out, I like cooking for a vegetarian.  I do better with the menus, the timing of what's done when, and how everything tastes.  It just suits me.  Who knew?  It helps that I love tofu, pasta, and chickpeas, which are big staples in our house now.

Thanks to a misbehaving water heater, our basement carpet got soaking wet while we were in Nebraska over the holiday.  That meant that our two walls of IKEA bookcases slurped up enough water to be ruined.  To get that dealt with, the water cleanup people had to take everything out  of them and move them into the center of the basement and now it's been almost two weeks of a torn-apart disaster area for a basement.  Stuff is dry, but we have yet to meet with the insurance guy to be sure they will replace the bookcases.  Then we need to order them, and put them together, and UGH, this will probably go on for some time, I think.
